Theme: We Come to Share Our Story

Scripture: We hear and tell these stories, so that we might come to know the Truth. (Luke 1: 2-4; Dei Verbum: 9)

About the theme: The Gospels we cherish, study, and live are a collection of beautiful, profound, and at times poetic stories, written down by the Evangelists, after sharing those stories for years orally after the passing of Jesus the Christ.

Christ himself appreciated a good story: no one knew Hebrew (Old Testament) Scripture as well as Jesus, who interpreted those stories for the new Kingdom of God, open to Jews and Gentiles alike.

Our Christian faith is centered around sharing and exploring what Jesus’ stories meant, and giving them meaning in our own lives. Catholicism has a rich tradition of passing on the stories of our communion of Saints. Each of us has a story of our faith journey with Christ.

When we tell these stories, and we listen to the stories told by others, we add another chapter to two thousand years’ of Christianity, and join in the communion of Saints!

The theme for CYX ’06 is We Come to Share Our Story. Throughout the weekend, participants will be asked to reflect upon their faith stories, encouraged to share those stories, and asked to reflect upon the faith stories of others.

Featured speakers & entertainers: Inspired (St. John the Evangelist, St. John), Fr. Kevin McCarthy, Fr. Charles Mosly, Effeta Young Adult Ministry, Orison (St. Paul, Valparaiso), Gsus (St. Paul, Valparaiso), Fr. Peter Muha, Apex Ministries, John Angotti, The Average Church Band, Alfredo "Pepe" Flores-Carillo (emcee)

Theme: Survivor: CYX, It's About Life

Scripture: I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly. (John 10: 10)

About the theme: Survivor: CYX, It's About Life uses the hit CBS television show to carry out a core message of Catholic teaching: the dignity of LIFE! From our conception to our grave and beyond, the life that God has given us should be celebrated!

We are called to a fullness of life which far exceeds the dimensions of our earthly existence, because it consists in sharing the very life of God. (John Paul II, Evangelium vitae 2)

Everyone is responsible for his life before God who has given it to him. It is God who remains the sovereign Master of life. We are obliged to accept life gratefully and preserve it for his honor and the salvation of our souls. We are stewards, not owners, of the life God has entrusted to us. (CCC 2280)

Throughout the weekend, teens will learn much about what the Catholic Church teaches regarding the sanctity of human life, what is commonly referred to in the Church as a Consistent Ethic of Life.

Featured speakers & entertainers: Fr. Kevin McCarthy, Fr. Chester Smith, Fr. Kevin Huber, Life Ministry (St. James the Less, Highland), Todd Lemieux, Vicki Schieber, Brett Eastburn, The Average Church Band, Alfredo "Pepe" Flores-Carillo (emcee)

Theme: World Youth Day 2008

Scripture: "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses." (Acts 1:8)

About the theme: Since you couldn't make it to Sydney, Australia for World Youth Day, we made every effort to bring World Youth Day to you!

“Why is CYX early this year?” Don’t thank us...thank the Pope!

We couldn’t pass up the chance to make CYX our local celebration of World Youth Day. WYD is actually an entire week’s worth of festivities, culminating with a pilgrimage walk, candlelight vigil, and closing Mass with Pope Benedict XVI. And you’ll see it going on when you walk to Camp Lawrence! At least a half million young people from all over the globe will be in Sydney, and we want you to feel like you’re a part of it. Even though Sydney is approximately 9,300 miles away, we are united this weekend by the symbol of our faith: THE CROSS!

Featured speakers & entertainers: Fr. Kevin McCarthy, Sal Solo/ACTS Evangelism, Fr. Kevin Huber, Kendall Ciesemier, Effeta Young Adult Ministry, St. Martin de Porres Youth Group (Ss. Monica & Luke, Gary), Jordan Fetcko, Ann Marie Eckert, The Average Church Band, Alfredo "Pepe" Flores-Carillo (emcee)

Theme: CROSSroads

Scripture: “Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way?” (Luke 24: 32)

About the theme: Almost daily teens find themselves at a crossroads: Which way do I turn? Am I on the right path? Should I head in a different direction?

CYX 2009 reminds us that Christ is with us at the CROSSroads!

Just as Christ was with the two men on the road to Emmaus, we too are called to recognize Christ’s Presence along our own journeys.

Featured speakers & entertainers: Mike Morelli, Mike Patin, Fr. Kevin Scalf, Fr. Kevin McCarthy, Nicoletta Coduti, Youth Ministry Participants from Whiting/Robertsdale Catholic Community & St. Mary, Kouts, The Average Church Band, Alfredo "Pepe" Flores-Carillo (emcee)

July 24-25, 2010

Theme: I AM

Scripture: “Who do you say that I am?” (Mark 8:27, Matthew 16:13, Luke 9:20)

"I AM the way and the truth and the life!" (John 14:6)

About the theme:

I am _____.

How would your teens complete that statement? Teens are constantly searching for identity. They are defined by the friends they share, the clothes they wear, their activities, their music, their culture, their FAITH. A single teen can complete that sentence a hundred different ways.

CYX 2010 will help teens proclaim one more:

I am a Catholic teen.

The Great I AM—Christ, God Incarnate—asked his followers, “Who do you say that I am?” (Mark 8:27, Matthew 16:13, Luke 9:20)

CYX 2010 will allow teens to encounter a Christ that boldly proclaims:

I AM the way and the truth and the life! (John 14:6)

Featured speakers & entertainers: Rich Curran, Danielle Rose, Paul Mach, Justus, Joe Kolosci, Kevin Driscoll, Fr. Kevin McCarthy, Roque Meraz, Juventud Catolica (East Chicago/Lake Station), Jimmy & the Israelites, Siloe (Youth Choir, Sacred Heart, Whiting), Alfredo "Pepe" Flores-Carillo (emcee)

July 23-24, 2011 Theme: TRANSFORMERS

Scripture: Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed… (Romans 12: 2)

About the theme:

CYX 2011 is the blockbuster hit of the summer!

Each day God asks us to be the force of good in the world. By the Power of the Holy Spirit, through the Grace bestowed upon us by our Creator through our One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, we are TRANSFORMED by Word and Eucharist, so that we might TRANSFORM others.

In theaters now, Hollywood gives us a blockbuster movie about superheroes who transform themselves to save the world. When we gather at CYX we will explore how we too have the power to be transformed—regularly— to save the world. We’ll hear from heroes whose lives have been transformed through Christ, and you will discover the hero within that allows you to battle the forces of evil.

Catholic teens, TRANSFORM! And roll out!

Featured speakers & entertainers: Noelle Garcia McHugh, William Portillo, Deacon Bob Marben, Justus, Rob Kaczmark, Dan Harms, Fr. Kevin McCarthy, Timothy O'Malley, Greg Iwinski, St. Patrick Youth Ministry (Chesterton), Jimmy & the Israelites, Alfredo "Pepe" Flores-Carillo (emcee)
