A collection of stuff for the Youth Ministry Contact(s) in your parish!

Week of April 18, 2010

Prayers & Well-wishes:  Please join me in praying for the young people and the many adult leaders who will minister to them at this weekend’s Source & Summit retreat at Andrean High School. Inquiries about last-minute registration should be directed to P.J. at at 219-365-5678 x254.

Important: Safe Environment audit: This year, the Diocese of Gary is preparing for an on-site Safe Environment Audit. The purpose of the audit is to verify that the diocese is in compliance with the USCCB Charter, "Promise to Protect, Pledge to Heal." In preparation for the audit, every parish and school will receive audit instructions and charts requesting information on Paid Employees (Chart B) and Volunteers (Chart C). It is imperative that every location in the Diocese of Gary complete the audit report. Your assistance in completing Charts B and C,is appreciated. The completed charts must be returned by the parish office to Darlene Marchina, diocesan Virtus Coordinator, by May 26, 2010. If you are a volunteer, make sure you are included in the report, regardless of compliance. If you are not VIRTUS-compliant, this is a friendly reminder that ALL persons in ministry alongside youth have three months from their date or hire (including unpaid volunteers) to receive the training.

More VIRTUS: Training for trainers: Tired of searching the diocesan websites for VIRTUS training sessions? Here’s your chance to become a facilitator for your community! The diocesan safe environment office is planning a New Facilitator Training Workshop on July 30th at the Pastoral Center from 9-3. Breakfast and lunch are included. There is no fee. Deadline to register is by July 9th. If you would like a registration form, contact Kevin Driscoll (769-9292 x229 or email yyakevATyahoo.com )

Youth Ministry University returns: OYYA presents “Youth Ministry University,” a two day YM training program, on two consecutive Thursdays, Apr. 29 & May 6, 5:30-9:30pm both nights, at Nativity of Our Savior, Portage. YMU trains YM coordinators, volunteers, and anyone working with young people in middle and high school. If you or anyone you know plans to attend and has not RSVP’d, please do so ASAP: Kevin Driscoll, 769-9292 x229, or yyakevATyahoo.com

Teens/others invited to see Sal Solo: This from Barb Harris, DRE at Holy Spirit (Winfield Twp): We are planning on having a Confirmation retreat at Holy Spirit on May 2nd.  Sal Solo will has been invited to conduct the retreat but there is a problem.  He requires that you have at least 30 participants and my Confirmation class is only 23. I have invited last year's Confirmation class and any older teens that would like to come.  I also found out that we may also have teens who are not Catholic attend as long as they are aware that it is a Confirmation retreat.  If you have anyone who would be interested in attending please let me know.  It begins at 12:30 and ends at 5:00.  The cost would be $5 to cover pizza and pop. Info, contact Barb: formationATholy-spiritchurch.org or 661-0644. Sal Solo was a keynote speaker/entertainer at CYX 2008, and has a unique style that engages teens through the use of music, video, and technology. His ministry, ACTS Evangelism & Worship, is a collaborating member of the NFCYM.

CYX 2010 Registration dates & details announced! I am not quite ready to mail out the CYX Registration Book for Group Leaders quite yet, but I do have the basics nailed down, namely price & deadlines, so you can begin establishing your own planning schedule to build your group. First, price: $95 per person (w/o-A/C), $115 per person (w/-A/C). All groups must be in the same building, so therefore you must choose one option for your entire group. One free adult registration for every ten paid teen registrations. This year I will NOT post the price for CYX on the website. Different groups have different pricing structures, so this eliminates some of the "guilt" that has been felt by tacking on $5 more to cover misc. costs, etc. YOU decide what you're charging whom. We’re also trying a SIMPLIFIED registration process this year: one July deadline for all forms, nothing to submit until July! That’s not to encourage you to delay promotions, just to simplify May and June for you and me! Also- while full color posters will be sent with the registration packet, you don’t have to wait. You can download either the 11x17 poster or the 8.5x11 flyer at the website. Get them, as well as complete information on due dates and the process at catholicyouthx.com. (Click “Dates” and “Register” links for more info)

Danielle Rose joins Jorge Rivera as CYX Keynoters/Entertainers: Danielle Rose comes to CYX ready to share her "I AM" journey of self. Danielle has spend the better part of the last decade of her young life open to God's calling in her life, including a long period of discernment with The Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, a religious congregation of Franciscan Sisters.
