Internet, Social Networking & Ministry: Can they Coexist?

Monday, May 17 · 6:30-8:30 · Our Lady of Consolation, Merrillville (directions)

Easily the biggest trend in media and youth culture in the last five years has been internet social networking. With more and more teens using web-enabled phones, their life status is truly lived in real time. This is justifiably scary for us Church leaders who for an entire decade were told to be extremely careful how we connect with youth. How do we reconcile our need to have an online presence with our fear of crossing boundaries?

Educators, Catechetical Leaders, Parish Leaders, Parents, Youth Ministers—anyone in the trenches with adolescents—is invited to join us for an evening seminar on Internet & Social Media, Monday, May 17, Our Lady of Consolation (Merrillville), 6:30-8:30.

Sponsored by the Diocese of Gary Office for Youth & Young Adults & Higher Ground Creative Media, our expert presenter is Joe Kern, who specializes in social network marketing, and who has himself developed online strategies in youth ministry. Joe is also the Youth Ministry Coordinator at Our Lady of Consolation in Merrillville.

Free. No RSVP necessary: come one, come all! Only light refreshments served, please eat prior to seminar. Laptops are invited, however no power supply is provided. Seminar held in Vamos Hall, Our Lady of Consolation, 8303 Taft St, Merrillville IN 46410 (just south of U.S. 30).
