Jorgé Rivera
Jorgé
Rivera serves as Coordinator for Hispanic Young Adult Ministry in
the Archdiocese of Chicago. Some of Jorgé's accomplishments
include the organization of three archdiocesan Encuentros
(gatherings) that have drawn thousands of Latino/a young people.
Other events include the Pascua Juvenil, leadership formation
retreats, music workshops and missions for parishes that are in
need of beginning pastoral ministry formation with Hispanic young
people.
Jorgé is currently in the process of developing a two-year
curriculum of leadership formation in "Pastoral Juvenil." In
addition to this curriculum, Jorgé also dreams of developing a
school of music where Latino young people can grow in and express
their artistic talents. Jorgé's passion for music and ministry has
allowed him to travel to Latin America and many dioceses within
the United States. This passion has led him to bring God's message
of hope to Mexico, Colombia, Puerto Rico, and Ecuador as a speaker
and performer. His most recent concert in Cali, Colombia helped
raise funds to build homes for homeless families living in the
streets of Cali.
Jorgé is a talented and Spirit-filled musician and entertainer,
having recorded a number of projects for World Library
Publications (WLP). Jorgé was honored in 2006 by receiving a Unity
Award from the United Catholic Music and Video Association (UCMVA)
for Spanish Album of the Year, “REINVENTANDO EL AMOR.”

of the people he meets, the Church he serves, and the culture in
which he lives.
Most Reverend Dale J.
Melczek
Shepherding
the Church of Gary since 1992, Bishop Melczek has long been an
advocate for young adults in the Catholic Church. He has been a
featured speaker at a number of Theology on Tap series. In
his previous role as Chairman of the Bishops’ Committee on the
Laity, he was highly influential in the drafting of “Co-workers in
the Vineyard of the Lord,” a groundbreaking document on the
collaboration of clergy and laity in the current and future work
of the Church. He led the diocese's participation in the
Emerging Models
of Pastoral Leadership Project. Young adults were a key
theme of the project, which affirmed that young adult Catholics
are proud of their Church, and do indeed desire a voice in her
future.
Bishop Melczek has served the United States Conference of Catholic
Bishops (USCCB) as a member of the Committee on Marriage and the
Family, and is particularly proud that he and his brother Bishops
in November approved the document,
“Marriage: Love
and Life in the Divine Plan.”
Bishop Melczek believes strongly that all persons, by their
baptism, all called to ministry through one of three vocations:
ordained, single, or marriage, and has great hopes for the young
adult Church of Gary.
