Youth Ministry Services provided by the
Diocese of Gary Office for Youth & Young Adults

GARYOYYA.ORG : Open 24 hours a day! It’s all here...the latest news on diocesan events, postings of parish events, links to other youth-related sights, youth ministry articles, a special site with news stories about today’s teens, a calendar of events, downloadable forms & promotional materials- including permission forms, back issues of communications materials, and lots, lots more!

Youth Ministry Meetings: At various times, adults working with youth are invited to join together to share and learn about youth-related topics, share event ideas, ask questions, and network with peers- others who share your successes and struggles!

Email list: Youth leaders who are on the free email list receive the first word on everything! They also get various articles/notifications not printed in the paper mailing due to time & space restrictions.

Youth Ministry Notes!: About once a week, the email list and parish fax machines receive a single sheet of miscellaneous youth-related “tidbits” of information. These quick notes could include updates on diocesan programs, bulletin-type announcements on parish events, youth-related news stories, etc.

Publicity and Advocacy: OYYA serves as a central clearinghouse of information, allowing youth leaders a chance to get the word out to others about their events, etc. OYYA has also partnered with Catholic radio station Relevant Radio 1270 AM on a regular “Spotlight on Youth” feature, that lets the community know about the good things God’s young Church is doing!

Consultations: Parishes/organizations are invited to bring in the coordinator to lead a presentation on comprehensive youth ministry with your leadership team, free of charge. How do you “think bigger” and do more effective ministry? Every parish is different, but without a blueprint, it’s hard to build anything. Let’s talk!

Youth Ministry University: Youth ministry leaders can participate in 2-day training sessions on comprehensive youth ministry, earning a certificate of completion. The training sessions are informative, interactive, and geared to the continued success of youth ministry efforts for your parish/organization. Coordinator can also develop customized training sessions for your parish/organization.

Catholic Youth Xperience: Youth programs from all over are encouraged to participate in a 3-day summer youth event filled with a variety of experiences: leadership and ministry skills training, creative and Sacramental prayer, catechesis, praise & worship, keynote speakers, live entertainment, the list goes on! “3 Days of Faith and Fun” to enhance your parish’s calendar of youth events!

Grásta Dé!: Statistics show youth are maturing faster. As a Church we must respond with dynamic and intentional Catholic formation opportunities for middle/junior high school youth. Grásta Dé! is a youth ministry day featuring music, speakers, learning, dancing, liturgy and more, proving to the younger ones that a Church formation experience can be fun, too!

Diocesan Youth Council: Parishes/Catholic schools/organizations can select two representatives to serve on this council of peers. DYC gives teens leadership and peer networking skills and is another way to keep parishes connected.

Teens Are People Too (TAPT) Retreat:  Held annually during Lent, TAPT is a weekend retreat for youth who wish to take time to come to know themselves, others, and God more intimately in their lives, exploring the Incarnation of Christ.

National and World Gatherings: The office will coordinate participation in the biennial National Catholic Youth Conference, and International World Youth Day, held every two to three years. Adult youth leaders will also be kept informed of national and regional formation opportunities, including the biennial National Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry and the Center for Ministry Development Youth Ministry Certificate Program.

but set an example for those who believe,
